$5 Kitchen Chair Makeover

Like many, my house is a work in progress.  We’ve lived in our house for close to two years and I feel like my home project list is continually growing.  One room that needs a lot of love is my kitchen.  The transformation all started with an awesome oak pedestal table from Craigslist that I painted white.  The table didn’t come with chairs so I had to source those separately.

Again, Craigslist to the rescue.  I knew these chairs had potential but I’ve had a hard time deciding what to do with them…should I paint them white?  Paint them a fun color like yellow?  I definitely had to reupholster the cushions.

I’ve had no problems finding fun fabric but since I have two small children, I couldn’t recover them with just any beautiful fabric because they would inevitably be ruined after our first meal.  I’ve been searching for something fun, yet durable.  This process has taken much longer than I intended and I’ve become impatient.

Enter the $5 vinyl table cloth that I found at Marshalls.  While the fabric is a little more “matchy, matchy” than I would like, it seemed like a perfect buy some time solution.

Out of one table cloth, I was able to cut out 4 cushions with plenty leftover for at least two more.  This isn’t a long term solution but for $5, lots of staples and less than an hour of time, I’m completely happy with how they turned out!  And thank goodness for vinyl….my seat cushions wipe clean without a problem.  Believe me, they’ve already been put to the test.

What do you think?  Should I paint the chairs?
